🇮🇹 Italy
This page contains specific information about Italy.
The current situation:
Designated blood donations are not usually performed in Italian hospitals—there is no possibility of freely choosing the donor’s blood. And please note, as clearly stated on our homepage at the bottom and below: There is currently no place in Italy where you can donate uncontaminated blood that is then labeled as such, and there is NO clinic that allows you to bring your own blood or that of any other donor of your choice. Ten years ago, yes. Now? It is no longer possible. This is what we are fighting against.
However, some of our members have still managed to select their blood donor. Here is how:
A way to select the blood donor ourselves, with which we have often achieved success in Italy, can be found here.
What we are doing:
Our action plans:
We are building a team for Italy that will seek the most feasible way to achieve our goal: the free choice of blood (and blood donors). This will involve finding medical partners (hospitals, laboratory chains, private practices, etc.) and, above all, trying to reduce the need for transfusions in general through clear instructions for medical staff in our members’ living wills.
If we cannot find suitable partners, we will have to create our own network of locations for donating and storing blood (blood bank). However, this only makes sense once we have medical partners who allow the free choice of blood donors.
A Telegram channel for easy updates will complement our website.
What YOU can do:
If you would like to join us and help the team, please contact us.
Spread the word and, above all, become a member, because we are only strong together.
Please note that there are no blood donation stations yet anywhere in Italy, as we need medical partners for this purpose. It will take time. Please check back often and subscribe to our newsletter.
If you need blood NOW because you have surgery scheduled, the closest option for Italians is to go to Africa (meaning—it’s quite far…), where many hospitals allow the free choice of blood donors. Have your surgery there, and don’t forget to tell local hospitals—they won’t like seeing money swimming away to Africa 😉
